NIGHT JOURNEY
As if on cue the sky has cleared overhead. A supernatural brightness spreads in a superlative canyon. One simply cannot take it all: the pillar has such presence as to give surrounding cliffs the consistency of translucent papier-mache. Half golden moonlight, half contrasting darkness, balanced on the tip of an equinoctial night.

And balanced it needs be, for it is not just a pillar anymore. Not an antenna tuned to the urgency of world events, not even the finger of God. Rather: the eye of the storm, the still pool after the volcano. A departing rocket launching us and the landmass into an evolutionary future of unknown magnitude.
